BLOGGUS INTERUPTUS
[January 8th] -- This is how I looked when I should have had just one more semester before graduating college.
That was thirty-nine years ago.
Trust me. I don't look like that anymore.
That said, today begins the first day of (what I hope to be) my last semester in college. As usual, my time is more limited during these first few days as I try to figure out where my resources are best spent.
Don't get me wrong, I'll be here -- just not as often, at least until I feel comfortable with my classes.
Wish me luck. I'm one of the few stupid people who've gotten this far in college.
AFTERNOON UPDATE: Well, I'm back from school and - apparently - nothing happened in the realm of Nationals' baseball. The team still has five hooks in the ocean, so sooner or later, someone is going to take a bite.
The Nats have to be very careful in deciding exactly who they choose to bring aboard the S.S. National. If they sign a couple of dregs, then it will become extremely difficult for some of us to continue to support the team in a "pro-planner" manner. There is no way, for instance, that the team can sign, say, Steve Trachsel, without some of us wondering exactly why we've all been supporting their "no bargain basement pitchers" mantra for the last couple of months.
Who knows, perhaps they'll pull a rabbit out of their hat.
We'll just have to wait and see.
Tell me what you think: I created a logo (very unprofessional, I know) for The Beltway Boys (top of the left column - if you're not using microsoft explorer, it's probably w-a-y down on the page. Do you like it? I want to create a logo to put on hats and shirts, etc (not to sell, though -- like who would want to buy one?) No -- just for family and friends.
I'd love an any suggestions you might have.

"Traditional" age students (i.e., 18 to 22 y/o) have no concept of how difficult it is for someone in his or her 30s, 40s, 50s, etc. with work and family obligations, to put in the effort and expense of finishing up a college education. I have some idea, because I was in that situation while in graduate school, but was in the "traditional" camp while getting my undergraduate degree. My hat is off to you, and I hope that you will let us know when you graduate. I'd like to send you a graduation present.
: 8:05 PM I can't believe how closed-minded I had become -- you know -- everything I "thought" was right. I have spent the past 4 1/2 years listening to professors with a holistically differing political viewpoint than mine teach me history, government, etc.
And you know what? Not one of them treated my beliefs with disrespect, or tried to change how I viewed the world. They did, however, open my eyes to why the other side feels the way they do. While I still disagree, I have a great deal more respect for their positions.
And isn't that what a college education is supposed to do for you? Broaden your horizons?
